New Crafting Journey
It has been exactly a year since my last post, what can I say, life happens. Since I have been away I have picked up a new craft...Customizing Tumblers. I know, I know there are a lot of crafters out there that have picked up this craft but to be honest it can be a very satisfying craft.
I tried my hand at this craft a little over a year ago and bomb on the first cup so I threw in the towel, I didn't have the right tools nor the patients so at the time it wasn't for me. Fast forward to a couple of months ago I asked for a tumbler turner for my birthday and got it, This is where the journey has begun. I have been able to create some pretty awesome cups since then.
I know there are many different techniques to learn along with experimenting with a few ideas. I have made some amazing gifts for people. I am not going to post all my cups in this one post but I am going to show you where I started on this journey.
I have not done what I have seen so many others do and go crazy on buying supplies, I choose to use what I already had and purchased a few little extras. The cup I am going to show you started as a regular stainless steel 30oz tumbler, put a base coat used alcohol inks, waterslide and vinyl cut to my own design. I had issues galore on this cup, the water slide didn't lay flat and some of it ripped. Once dry I put a coat of epoxy on it and got a bunch of fisheyes. Sanded, more epoxy, sanded again then one last coat of epoxy. This tumbler is not perfect and that is ok, I still use it everyday at the regular 9-5, to remind me what I am working towards. It will be a while before I can turn my crafting into a full time job but until then I will continue to better my skill and use it to my advantage. This is a great skill for Birthdays and holidays and anything in between.
